MASTER´S THESIS: Photorealistic simulation of laser triangulation sensor-data

For machine-vision test-data is often very important for many tasks, especially test-data with known ground-truth. For example when designing new algorithms, testing existing systems and/or performing pre-studies.

With real world hardware it is often difficult to get accurate ground-truth, therefore we propose a thesis on the subject of sensor-simulation. The idea is to use software for photorealistic rendering to simulate one of our sensors to generate realistic sensor-data with known ground-truth.

These simulations might include laser-simulations, lens-effects / systems, material and surface properties and simulating imaging artefacts.

In a second stage of the thesis there will be an opportunity to use the simulated data for practical use, such as algorithm verification / design or investigating it's use in deep learning.
