Master Thesis - Hyperspectral Cameras

Location

Linköping

Apply by

2020-10-18

Hyperspectral cameras collects hundreds of images at different spectral frequencies for each pixel in a scene. Each material has its own spectral signature and these narrow banded  spectra can be used for a wide range of applications, for example:

  • Identify and characterize objects
  • Measure thickness of thin-film coatings
  • Quality analysis of food
  • Identify and verify composition of materials

The goal in this thesis is to find and investigate possible applications for hyperspectral imaging in the area of factory automation or process automation. This work will contain both algorithm development and more practical parts like construction of test equipment.

Example research questions:

  • Can we use a hyperspectral camera to measure level of moisture in grain?
  • Can mold be detected before it is visible?
  • Can sugar content be measured using Raman scattering

Prerequisites

The applicant will benefit from experience in the following fields:

  • Image processing & computer vision
  • Programming in C++
